At this time of the year, many town halls have an impressive nativity scene on display - check out your local town hall.
One town hall in Cordoba province in Andalucia has gone one step further.
Almost 1.5 tons of chocolate and six months of preparation have gone into the delicious chocolate nativity scene created by master chocolatiers from Rute, Córdoba province. Europa Press reports that this year’s creation covers an area of 62 square metres and recreates the birth of Jesus with the city of Sevilla as the backdrop.
There’s a slightly scaled-down version of the Giralda, at 1.5 metres, and reproductions of the Torre del Oro and the Maestranza bullring.
The chocolatiers from Galleros Artesanos have even built a chocolate version of the house from Hansel and Gretel and, in a separate room, there’s a life-size chocolate statue of Prince Felipe. He took up 320 kilos of chocolate and stands in the Casa Real alongside chocolate versions of Princess Letizia and Doña Sofía.
The belén (nativity) can be visited until January 5, 2011 at Galleros Artesanos at Kilometre 18 of the road from Lucena to Rute in Rute, Córdoba province.
